Commemorating 80th Anniversary of D-Day

It was a very special evening to mark the 80th anniversary  of D-Day at the Battle of Britain Bunker ... this was the place from where all Allied aircraft involved in the invasion of Hitler's European Fortress were controlled.

Live music ... presentations ... drinks reception ... and most importantly the laying of wreaths to honour the men and women who sacrificed so much.

I also had the pleasure of meeting with The Worshipful The Mayor of Hillingdon, Cllr Colleen Sullivan and Denise, whose mother Renee Shalom  had been on duty in the Bunker.

Renee had been instructed on the eve of D-Day to broadcast a coded message, and although she didn't know it, she had just informed units across the Allied Expeditionary Air Force that the liberation of Europe had begun.
